Bombay was not yet Mumbai -- Ceylon was not yet Sri Lanka -- and West Pakistan and East Pakistan were not yet Pakistan and Bangladesh in 1981.
Travel to India was a total adventure - an assault on the senses with the chaos of old and new, opulent splendor and abject poverty, lives lived in private behind walls and also on public sidewalks.  Every type of transport option possible giving way to sacred cows. Delicious food, marvelous shopping and a multitude of religious and cultural monuments to visit.   Above all - wonderful people.   I loved it all!
